職人への憧れ③ /Longing to be a craftsman

会社員生活は自分には

向いていないと感じ、

何となくだがぼんやりと

職人への道を考え始めた・・・。

特にどの職種でなければならない

と言う思いも特になく、

古くから日本にある様な

伝統工芸なども良いな

と思っていた時もあった。

そんな折にあるバイク雑誌に

シルバージュエリーが掲載されていて

自分の中にビビッとくるものを

強く感じた。

その時の事が後の私の人生の

分かれ道となり

大きな転機となった。

その後会社員を２年で辞めた私は

シルバー職人としての

道を歩き始めた・・・。

その時２４歳。

当然技術も知識も全くない

只の素人。

学校等へ行くと言うことは

考えにも無く、

兎に角働きたかったので

働き口はいきなり自分で

シルバーショップに

出向き働かせてくださいと

頭を下げた。

何度か通ううちにバイトから

やらせてもらう様になり

そこで数年お世話になった。

そこには私の様な

血気盛んな若者達が

常に溢れお互いに切磋琢磨した。

基本的な技術も学んだが、

でも寧ろ技術ではない何か

もっと大切な精神性みたいなものを

自分はそこで学び取ったと

思っている。

お金ではなく

やりたいことを見つけた私は

毎日が充実し、

やればやるほど腕が上がっていくのを

自分でも実感した。

I felt corporate life wasn't for me,

and somehow, vaguely, I began to consider

the path of becoming a craftsman...

I didn't have any particular idea

about which specific craft it had to be,

and there were times I thought

traditional crafts like those found in Japan since ancient times

might be nice.

Around that time, a motorcycle magazine

featured silver jewelry,

and I felt a strong spark within me.

That moment became a turning point in my life,

a major crossroads.

After quitting my office job two years later,

I started walking the path of a silver craftsman...

I was 24 at the time.

Naturally, I had absolutely no skills or knowledge—

just a complete amateur.

Going to school or anything like that never crossed my mind.

I just wanted to work, so I suddenly went to a silver shop myself,

bowed my head, and asked,

“Please let me work here.”

After visiting several times,

they let me start as a part-timer,

and I worked there for several years.

The place was always bustling

with passionate young people like me,

and we pushed each other to grow.

I learned the basic techniques,

but more than that,

I believe I learned something else there—

something more important,

a kind of spirit or mindset.

Finding something I truly wanted to do,

rather than just chasing money,

made every day fulfilling.

I could feel my skills improving

the more I worked.
